Vale Ron Sandilands

14 Dec 2018 by Kristy Glew

It is with the saddest of hearts that we advise that our great friend Ron passed away around lunchtime yesterday at the Angliss Hospital, in the arms of his best friend Faye.

Ron was a long time supporter of the Club over the junior and senior journey of his son Mark, a multiple premiership player and coach, and his support of the Club continued when Mark finished his playing and coaching career.

An important member of the Past Players and Supporters Group Ron organised many wonderful speakers for functions through his connections in the entertainment and music industry.

His efforts to improve the Club and the Community continued through his involvement in conjunction with Faye in Project Upwey, CRASH and “The Thursday Night Crew” where he would regularly be seen during either football or cricket season, red wine in hand sharing stories of his life and always ready to have a chat and lend his ear to others.

A friend to all, Ron will be sadly missed. While his greatest contribution to the club may have been his part in providing a champion player, there is no doubt that Ron was a champion bloke.

The family is holding a private cremation next week and a public celebration of Ron’s wonderful life will be held sometime in the second half of January, and we will advise you all of this when the full details are known.

So for now, our love and thoughts are with Faye, Mark and Jodie and their families, and of course, of all the wonderful times we shared with Ron together over so many years – a truly great man
